the city had a total population of 9,239. The city is the county seat of Grady County.
The city's name is pronounced differently from Cairo, Egypt: like "K-row&".
Although Cairo is nicknamed the "Syrup City" it has no relationship with the popular Karo brand
of corn syrup, which is pronounced the same way.
Well-known people from Cairo include Jackie Robinson, a former Major League Baseball player
and National League MVP; and Bill Stanfill, a former All-Pro American football defensive end,
Willie Harris, a member of Chicago White Sox 2005 World Champions.
