About Decatur - Decatur is a city located in DeKalb County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 18,147. The city is the county seat of DeKalb County. Decatur is part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area and public transportation is served by MARTA.

The city's motto, inscribed on the city seal, reads "A city of homes, churches, and schools."

Georgia also has a county named Decatur in the southwest corner of the state.
